Fall Indoor Allergies

Fall Indoor AllergiesDo you feel like your allergies get worse when you turn on your furnace in the fall? If it does, you’re not alone! Turning on your heating will blow all the debris that has settled and collected on your heating equipment through your ducts and into your home. This debris consists of pet dander, dust, mold spores, and pollen to name a few. You can reduce the airborne allergens in your home by doing a few different things.

Replace your furnace air filter. Keeping a clean filter in the system is the best way to keep allergens out of your HVAC system.

Dust and vacuum often. Keeping pet hair, dust, dander, and anything else that may be floating in the air to a minimum will allow less debris to get caught and build up in your heating system.

Schedule annual furnace maintenance. Having a professional thoroughly clean and service equipment will ensure all filters are replaced and components are free of debris on your heating equipment.

Have your ducts cleaned. Have a professional thoroughly clean your ductwork. Debris can collect in your duct work and stay for years while mold and mildew thrive in the damp, dark conditions and will blow throughout your home when your system turns on.

Fall allergies don’t have to get worse when you turn on your furnace. Doing a few extra tasks in your home will help keep indoor allergens at bay. For everything you can’t do yourself, give us a call and let our technicians take care of all your HVAC needs!
