Low Water Pressure in the Home

Low water pressure in the home can be irritating. Low water pressure can make daily tasks such as showering and doing dishes frustrating and time-consuming.  Finding the cause can be a common plumbing problem.  Some of the usual suspects can be mineral build-up and debris in the pipes.  Dirt and sand can enter your home’s pipes if there is a water main problem.  Your plumbing pipes are prone to mineral build up from deposits that water leaves behind especially if you live in a rural water area.  A small amount of sediment can leave a blockage in your home’s plumbing.

If you have a leak in your home’s plumbing system, it can reduce your water pressure throughout the home because not all of the water is flowing toward its proper place.  If you suspect you have a water leak, shut off all water supplies inside and outside.  Go check your water meter, then wait a few hours.  If the reading on the water meter has changed, there’s a good chance you have a water leak that needs to be repaired by a plumber.

Your municipal water supply can malfunction.  Sometimes the water pressure issue is not to do with your own piping but with your area’s municipal water supply.  These systems are subject to leaks, mineral build-up and other problems that can affect your water pressure.  If you suspect this to be the case, call your local water company and ask whether they have had any recent problems and if so, will it be corrected in a timely manner.  If you have persistent water pressure problems call a local plumber. 785-341-4193.  De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Topeka Kansas and some surrounding areas.
