Your brain weighs approximately 3-pounds.  Your brain is your body’s control center telling other parts of your body what to do.  It is a highly complex job and the brain has several major parts.  CEREBRUM – similar to a globe the cerebrum is split into two halves.  The left hemisphere controls thought, reasoning, language, and logic. The right side increases your awareness of music, art, imagination and the ability to process three-dimensional images.  The right side controls the left hand and the left side controls the right hand.   BRAIN STEM – it is found at the base of the brain, just above the spinal cord.  The brain stem controls function that that do not require conscious effort or thought.  These functions include digestion, hunger, sleep, thirst and blood pressure and emotional behaviors.  It also regulates body temperature, controls eye movement and facial expressions.  CEREBELLUM – this heart-shaped tissue controls the body’s balance and coordination and fine-tunes motor functions.  PITUITARY GLAND – The pituitary gland is the size of a pea but has a large role in many body functions.  It controls many hormones that affect growth, development, and metabolism.  It also releases hormones that control other glands such as adrenal, ovaries, thyroid and testicles.

Your brain may not be a muscle but it still can be exercised like one by eating proper nutrients,  getting plenty of rest, and staying in good health.  People who face cognitive challenges can reap benefits of physical activity.  Studies have shown with physical activity, their symptoms progress more slowly.  Regular endurance exercise is one of the things you can do to keep your mind in shape.  The benefits are improved heart health, improved metabolism, regulated blood sugar levels and reduced inflammation of the body.  Strength training can also boost brain power, increase concentration and improve decision-making skills.  De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Wamego Kansas, Topeka Kansas and some surrounding areas.  Your Brain
