Water Heater Maintenance

Water Heater MaintenanceYour water heater should usually last you about 10 years. If you own your home, it’s inevitable that you will have to replace your water heater at some point in time. Here are a few things you can do to help you get the most life out of your water heater:

Drain your tank and flush it out with cold water annually. Minerals and sediment can build up and clog the tank which could cause the tank to overheat.

Check your anode rod yearly. This is a self-sacrificing metal rod which will attract corrosive minerals and corrode away before your tank will.

Add insulation to your water lines in and out of your water heater. Heat will leak from your pipes and it can cause your water heater to work more to heat up your water and keep it at your set temperature.

Repair any leaking fixtures in your plumbing. A small leak can add up to a huge amount of water waste and will affect the efficiency of your water heater because it will have to run more to replenish itself.

If you don’t feel comfortable with performing these services on your water heater, give us a call at 785-341-4193 to get set up to have your water heater serviced by one of our licensed technicians. Getting your water heater serviced annually will help prolong its life and help ensure you won’t be without hot water.
