Furnace Tips

Furnace TipsThe temperatures will be dropping soon and with that, your furnace may have a hard time keeping up. It doesn’t matter what the size of your heating system is or the age of it, when temperatures drop below freezing, they will have to work harder to maintain the temperature of your home. Here’s a few things that will help take some of the stress off of your heating system.

Replace your air filter. When it’s freezing temperatures outside, your system will have to work harder and longer to maintain your set temperature in your home. If your filter is dirty, it won’t be able to pull in air as well and your heating system will have to work even harder to keep your home warm.

Keep your thermostat at a consistent temperature during the day. You may think you’re reducing energy consumption, but when you come home and you turn your thermostat back up to your desired temperature, your system will have to run constantly to meet that set temperature.

Keep exhaust vents clear. If the vents are obstructed with debris or snow and ice, it can create performance issues with your heating system and health hazards within the home such as carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you cause your heating system to have to work overtime and run constantly due to temperature fluctuations, it will cause more wear and tear on your system. If you haven’t had annual maintenance on your system performed, that in itself can cause a decrease in efficiency. If you find yourself with heating issues or are in need of yearly maintenance on your heating system, give us a call at 785-341-4193 and let us take care of you!
