Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is a national park located in the United States.  The park is in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.  Yellowstone was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872.  Yellowstone was the first National Park in the U.S. and is known to be the first National Park in the world.

Yellowstone is known for its geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, which is one of it’s most popular features.  The park has many types of ecosystems and is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.  There are lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges.  Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent.  The caldera is considered an active volcano, it has erupted several times in the last 2 million years.  Half of the worlds geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by the ongoing volcanism.  Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone.

Yellowstone spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles.  Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles make the park their home. Grizzly bears, wolves and free-ranging herds of bison and elk live in the park.  The Yellowstone Park bison herd is the oldest and largest public bison herd in the United States. The vast forests and grasslands include unique species of plants.  Numerous recreational opportunities include hiking, camping, boating, fishing, and sightseeing.  Paved roads provide access to most areas as well as lakes and waterfalls.  During the winter, visitors can access the park by way of guided tours in snow coaches or on snowmobiles.  Planning your summer vacation?  Consider a visit to Yellowstone.  De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Topeka Kansas and some surrounding areas.
