Build the Perfect Fire

How to build the perfect fire.  1- Save 2 inches of ash bed from your last fire, but leave 1 inch clear between the ash and grate as this helps create a hotter new fire. 2- Use a metal grate to raise logs off the ground so air can circulate under neath.  3- Lay 2-dry starter logs parallel on each side of the grate so air can fuel the fire from below. Use only dry wood that has been seasoned or store bought kiln-dried wood. 4- Stuff 7- grapefruit sized balls of newspaper between the 2 logs-never burn wrapping paper or boxes as they can release harmful chemicals. 5- Crisscross kindling across the starter logs and over the newspaper balls. 6- Now light the newspaper balls and the kindling should light as well. 7-Add another log every 10- 20 minutes for the first hour, then add logs as needed to maintain the fire.  Remember-never burn anything in your fireplace that is not intended for burning in a fireplace.  Driftwood, painted or varnished wood can release toxic chemicals into your home. De Hart Plumbing, Heating and Cooling serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.De Hart Plumbing and Heating and Cooling - Manhattan, KS 66502
