Your Microwave

Your microwave has many uses besides re-heating leftovers. Your MicrowaveTo avoid crying when chopping an onion, wash the onion, trim the ends off and microwave it for 30 seconds before cutting.  When you cut an onion, the knife damages the cells, releasing sulfuric gas that irritates the eyes.  Heating the onion first breaks apart the enzymes that trigger the gas release.  To cook crisp bacon in the microwave, place a bowl upside down on a plate covered with paper towels. Drape some bacon strips over the bowl, then microwave for one minute for each strip of bacon you are cooking.  As the bacon grease drips onto the plate the bacon gets crisp. To make individual french toast cups first rub a pat of butter on the bottom and sides of a mug; fill to the top with small cubed bread.  In a separate cup, mix 1- egg, 3-tablespoons of milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  Pour the mixture into the bread mug and microwave for 1 minute or a little longer depending on the power of your microwave.  To make flavored butter, microwave a stick of butter at 30-second intervals until melted.  Add a pinch of salt and a mixture of freshly chopped herbs.  Heat for 20-30 more seconds to get the herbs fragrant. Drizzle on toasted french bread.  De Hart Plumbing, Heating and Cooling serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas and some outlying areas.
