Place a strainer over kitchen and bathroom drains if they don’t have one. This will prevent hair, pieces of soap and other debris from clogging the drains. Clean the strainer as needed.  Pour a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar down your drains every month. Drains in showers and bathrooms need extra care; pour a couple gallons of boiling water down each bathroom drain monthly to clear out greasy particles and hair. If your shower drain does get plugged up – try plunging it then rinsing with very hot water if the clog gets dislodged. Another clog that no one thinks about is the wash machine drain. You can put a lint trap on your washer discharge hose. Some simple preventions can save you money in the future.
