Homeowner Tips

dehart-slideHere are some handy homeowner tips.  Did you know service technicians report that up to 30% of service calls could be avoided?  A push of a button or a flip of a switch could save you $50 to $100.  If any electronic item suddenly wont turn on, don’t assume its broken.  Plug in another item, if it works then you know it is not the outlet.  Press the reset (red) button on GFCI’s.  Sometimes all the bathroom outlets or several exterior lights are powered through a single GFCI.  If there is an outage, push the reset button on the GFCI before you call a professional.  Should you fix or replace a water heater?  A water heaters life expectancy is 10-15 years.  A small repair could cost 10-30% of the cost of a replacement.  If yours is 10 years old, replacement is usually a smarter decision.  To prevent flooding, turn off the main water valve.  Insurance adjusters tell the same story; a homeowner left town on Friday and returned Sunday evening to find thousands of dollars of water damage.  The moral is simple; turn off that main valve when leaving for a vacation.  De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
