Snow shoveling is one of the more common causes of back injuries. All the heavy lifting and bending can put undue stress on your back and cause stress on your heart. Make sure you dress appropriately by wearing light water-repellent clothing, a warm hat, good gloves that keep your hands warm and dry, thick socks and boots with a slip-resistant sole. Start early when there is a light coating of snow and keep up with it instead of waiting till all the snow has fallen and it is thick and heavy to shovel. Make sure you can see well, don’t let a hat or scarf block your vision. Be careful of ice patches and uneven surfaces that could cause a fall. Clearing snow places a great deal of stress on your heart, check with your doctor and make sure you can handle the job. Use a shovel that is proper for your height and strength. If all else fails-hire someone to clear the snow for you. De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
