Today is Kansas Day for those of us who reside in the great state of Kansas. Kansas Day was born in Paola, Kansas in 1877 in the Paola public school when 15 – 20 students were studying U S history on January 8, 1877. The battle of New Orleans was being discussed and brought about a patriotic spirit within the students. The whole school decided to celebrate their pride in Kansas and its victory of peace.  So, an afternoon was set aside to celebrate the eventful day – January 29,1877. Kansas Day has continued to grow for more than 130 years and is celebrated by teachers and students across the state.
