Pets are animals kept for companionship or protection. Pets commonly provide their owners with physical and emotional benefits. Having a pet can give companionship to elderly adults who do not have adequate social interaction with other people. The most popular pets are dogs and cats. People also keep rabbits, ferrets, rodents, pigs, birds, fish, frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes, tarantulas and the list goes on. Keeping a pet and doing it the right way requires a lot of responsibility and should not be a choice you make quickly on impulse. Many domesticated pets such as dogs and cats can live up to 10-18 years. As they age, they can require a lot more care, changes in diet, and be in need of long term medication to provide a comfortable life. House pets such as dogs and cats require a safe healthy environment to thrive in. That means plenty of healthy food and fresh water and removal of home items that could prove harmful or dangerous to your pet. Plenty of exercise is required also. Neutering or spaying your domestic pets is best for them and you. Never forget the overpopulation housed in facilities because humans failed to spay or neuter. A pet can offer many years of love and companionship. And remember, the different seasons of the year can require changes in your pet’s care and environment.
