Shoveling snow can be hazardous to your health. If you are out of shape, have back problems or a heart condition, you should have someone else do the snow shoveling for you. After a snowfall, hospitals are inundated with heart attack victims and patients with wrenched backs. If you are healthy enough to do the job yourself, use a good shovel, particularly one that is ergonomic. If you have to dig, use a steady motion not twisting your body. If you are pushing snow, hold the shovel at a slight angle and make back and forth passes. Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. When you are done have a cup of cocoa, tea or broth to warm up.
