Labor Day 2019

Labor DayWhat are we actually celebrating when most of us get the first Monday in September off? It surely can’t just be to not work, barbecue, and shop great deals at our favorite stores, right? Well, if that’s what you think, you’re not completely wrong!

Labor Day started during the Industrial Revolution with around 10,000 unionized factory workers, who were over-worked, that wanted fewer working hours organizing a 1-day strike on September 5, 1882 and marching in a parade to City Hall in New York City to protest. Afterwards, they relaxed and had a giant picnic! Most businesses were actually in favor of shorter work days and a 6-day work week; it allowed workers more free time to spend their earnings and boost local economy.

Now, even though Labor Day is a national holiday, that doesn’t mean everyone gets the day off! This includes our on-call technician! So if you find yourself in a plumbing or HVAC emergency, call us at 785-341-4193! Have a wonderful Labor Day from all of us at De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling!
