Phone Scams

Phone ScamsHere are some tips to help you avoid phone scams. *Making auto-dialed or prerecorded calls without a customer consent is illegal  *Putting your phone number on the Do Not Call Registry (donotcall.gov) lets you choose whether you want to receive sales calls, but it does not stop the illegal calls  *Do not answer calls from an unfamiliar caller ID number, answering the call verifies that you have an active number, which will subject you to robo-calls.  *Hang up if you answer an unwanted call and do not press buttons to be connected as it could lead to a scam  *Neighbor Spoofing is where the first three digits of the phone number match the first three digits of your phone number area code so you will think you are receiving a local call. Then the caller will pose as a business, local organization or the government to trick you into giving out personal information. *Do not confirm or provide personal information such as account numbers, social security numbers, passwords or any other identifying information to anyone unless you absolutely know who you are dealing with  *Be suspicious of anyone pressuring you to take immediate action this is the sign of a scam.
