Winter road treatment will get you to work safely. Ever see those vertical lines on the road surface before a snow storm. The solution many cities and towns use is called salt brine. Salt brine is water saturated with sodium chloride, or simply rock salt dissolved in water. Salt brine is applied by spraying it onto the pavement up to 72 hours in advance of a winter storm. Pre-treating is a snow fighting strategy used in anticipation of road/bridge frost or snowfall. If applied before a winter storm, salt brine will begin working as soon as the first snowflake falls and will delay the accumulation of snow and ice on pavement. Using salt brine can save cities and towns money, but some environmental concerns have been raised over its use. Some communities across America have opted to stop using the brine until more studies can prove it’s safety to the environment. De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
