Frozen House Water Pipes

Freezing temperatures can bring frozen house water pipes.  Likely places for frozen pipes in your home are ones near exterior walls or where your water enters your home.  If you turn your water on during freezing temperatures and the water trickles out or does not come out at all, chances are your pipes are frozen.  You should never try to thaw frozen pipes with a blow torch or any open flame device.  Keep cabinet doors open under all sinks and apply heat with a hair dryer or direct a space heater toward the pipes if they have frozen. To help prevent pipes from freezing, you should let them run at a slight trickle during severe freezing temperatures. Also during freezing weather, it is wise to turn your thermostat up a few more degrees than usual. You should check all faucets and pipes in your home and garage. Make sure no hoses are still attached to your outside faucet as that water line can freeze and burst when it warms up.  When water freezes, the pipes expand and can rupture.  When frozen pipes do thaw, listen and check for any running or dripping water when the faucet is shut off.  If you cant get frozen pipes thawed or you have a burst pipe, it is best to call a professional plumber. 785-341-4193  De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Wamego Kansas and some surrounding areas.  Frozen House Water Pipes
