Saint Patrick’s Day

saint patrick's daySaint Patrick’s Day is a cultural holiday celebrated on the 17th of March every year.  The day celebrates the  heritage and culture of the Irish in general.  Celebrations involve public parades and festivals and the wearing of green or shamrocks.  Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  It is also widely celebrated around the world.  The color green has been associated with Ireland since the 1640’s.  Green ribbons and shamrocks have been worn on Saint Patrick’s Day since the 1680’s.  The true Irish meal  is centered around bacon and ham not the traditional corned beef and cabbage that we Americans eat.  Back in the day, beef was not readily available in Ireland and was considered a luxury item.  It was not until the Irish came to America that beef and corned beef was readily available and became the choice of Irish Americans.  Whatever your choice, enjoy the day, eat some good food and have a green beer!  De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
