First Aid Tips

Here are some first aid tips.  *Treat a burn by running it under cold water for at least 20 minutes, you need the cold to soak in to prevent further damage – no ice or butter!  *If you get a nosebleed, apply direct pressure by pinching your nose and keeping your head in a neutral position with your chin parallel to the ground, sit and stay relaxed-NO tilting your head back.  *If you have an injured eye, DO NOT fish around in the eye for the irritant, instead cover the eye and seek immediate professional care.  *If you are in a car accident and think you feel fine, get checked out at the hospital anyway because adrenaline at the time of the accident can mask pain.  It can take 20-30 minutes to hours before you feel something is wrong.  *If you have a bleeding injury and the gauze is blood soaked, DO NOT pull it off and replace it.  Instead add a fresh piece of gauze on top.  Pulling the blood soaked gauze could interrupt the clotting process.  *Always apply cold on a sprain or fracture as ice decreases swelling.  Heat boosts blood flow which can make swelling worse.  Save the heat for back spasms.  De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.  dehart-slide
