Self-Maintenance

We always talk about maintenance on your HVAC and plumbing appliances and how much of an inconvenience it is when they break down, but even more important than annual maintenance of your AC system is the maintenance for your own body. Unfortunately, it usually takes a health scare for us to be more concerned about our own health. Small adjustments to daily life now while the weather is warm will make it easier to create habits that will put you on the right track towards a healthier You.

**Get outside and get moving! Take the dog for a walk for a few extra blocks around the neighborhood. Find some nearby trails and check out the natural landscape. Explore the Coronado Heights Castle, the Kansas Underground Salt Mines, or Rock City.

**Drink more water! If water is too plain for you, try infusing it with fruit! Throw some cut-up strawberries into your water bottle, cucumber and mint leaves, lemon slices, the options are endless!

**Start packing your lunch! A healthy lunch keeps you more energized and productive. Fast food is quick and convenient, but along with eating healthier, packing your own lunch will save you quite a bit of money not eating out every day.

**Start a warm-weather hobby! Take up kayaking, hiking, or swimming!

**Use your fruit bowl for actual fruit! Keep fruit around for healthy snacks that you can grab on the go or keep in your work space!

**When you tell your kids to go play outside, go play with them! Ride bikes together, throw around the football or baseball, take them on nature hikes! This will not only be good exercise for you, but it will also create lasting memories between you and your kids!

We too often take care of everyone and everything else before ourselves. During an emergency in an aircraft, they tell you to put on your mask before you put on anyone else’s. This holds true in life; we must take care of ourselves otherwise we won’t be able to take care of others.
