Spring Forward, Fall Back. This weekend marks the end of Daylight Savings Time by moving our clocks forward 1 hour this weekend. Because this happens to us twice a year to extend our daylight, there’s a few things we can do around our home for maintenance if you have trouble remembering when the last time you did something was.
*Check your smoke alarms. Change the batteries every 6 months when you change the time in your home. Test the smoke alarm to be sure it is working and keep in mind that smoke alarms are recommended to be replaced every 10 years.
*Change your air filter. In the next month, you may start thinking about turning off your furnace and turning on your AC unit. Start the cooling season off right by starting it with a clean air filter.
*Clean your gutters. You may have missed cleaning the leaves and debris from your gutters before it got cold. Before we start getting the Spring rainstorms, clean your gutters to be sure there won’t be any blockages and the downspouts will drain water away from your home’s foundation.
*Restock your emergency kit. Here in the Midwest, we’re getting closer and closer to Tornado Season. Check your emergency kit and restock any supplies you may have depleted over the last year. Check the expiration dates on medication and food and check the batteries in flashlights to be sure you won’t be left in the dark.
