Our world has changed quite a bit in the last few weeks. One major change is how we clean and disinfect the areas of our homes and work spaces. Lysol or other typical disinfectants seem to be unavailable more often than not, so that sometimes forces us to be a little more creative with our cleaning supplies. Some chemical products should never be mixed due to unsafe chemical fumes or chemical reactions.
Bleach and Vinegar
- These chemicals together make chlorine gas which can cause coughing, breathing problems, and burning, watery eyes
Bleach and Ammonia
- These create a gas called chloramine with similar symptoms of bleach and vinegar, but also shortness of breath and chest pain.
Bleach and Rubbing Alcohol
- This combination creates chloroform which can be irritating and toxic.
Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar
- Peracetic acid is made when these chemicals are combined which can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory system and also cause corrosion to surfaces.
The safest way to use chemicals is to NOT combine any chemicals. Thoroughly read through the labels on the products you are using to clean your home and always use them in a well-ventilated area.
At De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, we care about the safety of you and your family. All of our technicians are now wearing gloves and face masks in addition to the shoe booties we were already using, but also cleaning and disinfecting our work area before we leave your home, all while following social distancing between our technicians and yourself. In our office, before scheduling an appointment, we are asking questions in regards to travelling, symptoms, and exposure to reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19. We appreciate all your continued support through this time and if there’s anything we can do while a technician is in your home to further reduce the risk of exposure, please let the office staff know.
