Heat Exchanger Inspection

Heat Exchanger InspectionHas an HVAC technician recommended that you have a heat exchanger inspection on your furnace? When you have an older furnace that has gone through many heating seasons, the constant heating up and cooling down can cause your heat exchanger to develop cracks. These cracks can develop over time but can also develop quickly. What that means for you as a homeowner is that a cracked heat exchanger can cause the fuel to burn inefficiently and not combust properly but also, it can mean that you have carbon monoxide leaking into your home through those cracks which is a big problem.

There have been great improvements in diagnosing a cracked heat exchanger over the years and sometimes you can do a visual inspection of the heat exchanger and easily see a crack, but the best way to thoroughly diagnose if a heat exchanger had issues is to disassemble and remove it from the furnace and thoroughly clean the exchanger of all debris and then inspect it from top to bottom.  This way, there’s no doubt if there are any cracks or breaks or anything that could compromise the efficiency of your furnace or the health of your household.

If you have an older furnace, we highly recommend having your furnace’s heat exchanger inspected by a trained technician. Give us a call at 785-341-4193 and let us make sure your family is safe and your furnace is running as efficiently as possible.
