Freezing Temperatures

Freezing temperatures can reek havoc if you are not prepared.  Extreme cold can be hard on you and your home, here are some tips to avoid unpleasant happenings.  Disconnect outside hoses and cover faucets.  Insulate walls and attics, caulk and weatherstrip doors and windows.  Wrap pipes in basement and crawl spaces.  Place a insulation blanket around your water heater.  If you have a fireplace, keep the flu closed when not using it.  Make sure furniture isn’t blocking heating vents.  Keep cabinet doors open under kitchen and bathroom sinks to allow warm air to circulate.  Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets connected to pipes that run through unheated or non insulated spaces.  If your house will be unattended during a cold spell, keep the heat on.   De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
