Dirty Air Filter

A dirty air filter can hinder the cooling function of your air conditioner.  Your air filter catches dirt and other airborne particles when your system is running.  Since your air conditioner is running frequently during the summer, your air filter can get clogged quicker.  Here are some air conditioner problems that can result from a dirty/clogged air filter:  *Overheating- Your system must work harder to compensate for blockage of air flow, this can cause the blower motor to overheat and lead to system failure.  *Inadequate amount of cooling.  A clogged air filter causes air flow issues which can make it difficult to reach the set indoor temperature in your home. *Frozen evaporator coils.  The evaporator coils absorb heat from your home’s return air.  If a clogged filter is restricting air flow, your evaporator coils might not receive enough heat from your home’s air, which can cause them to freeze over and shut your unit down.  *Unhealthy air – Your air filter captures dirt and other particles that can affect the health of your family, particularly if someone has asthma or other health conditions.  If the filter is clogged, unfiltered air can bypass your filter and circulate throughout your home. dirty air filter

To avoid the problems associated with a clogged air filter, set a reminder on your phone or on your calendar to clean or change your air filter every month.  It’s a simple task that only takes a few minutes.  Many newer model thermostats come with a feature that will remind you when it’s time to change your filter.  Any questions or concerns about your air conditioning system??  Call De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, 785-341-4193.  Serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Topeka Kansas and some surrounding areas.
