Heating tape or cable can prevent water pipes from freezing. When water pipes are exposed to cold/freezing temperatures either outdoors, underground, in a crawl space or under a mobile home, you can protect them from freezing by wrapping with heat tape. Heat tape is a cord or heat cable with encased electrical wire. When plugged in it regulates the temperature around plastic or metal pipes. Don’t run the risk of letting your water pipes freeze. Heat tape is relatively easy to install. You will need to know how much heat tape you need according to the pipe type, length, and diameter. Before installing read all directions carefully. You should never cross heat tape back over itself, as it can overheat. If you have any questions, call your friendly plumber at De Hart Plumbing.
