Warmer weather means more outdoor activities; bike riding is one of these activities. Look twice when you’re near roadways whether you’re driving a vehicle, riding a bike, or riding a motorcycle. It’s very easy to miss a cyclist when our eyes have been trained the last few months to watch for full-sized vehicles.
-Wear an appropriate helmet that fits your head correctly and is secured.
-Use a bright headlight and rear reflector which will make yourself more visible and increase safety.
-Give yourself 3 feet of space between yourself and a cyclist, or vice versa.
-Teach your kids bike safety and review it with them every spring to ensure they’re properly crossing roadways and paying attention to traffic.
-Share the roadway. Cyclists on roadways are considered vehicles and they are to obey the same traffic laws and have all the same rights.
Look twice while you’re on the road. Bike safely and drive safely. Children aren’t always able to consistently make the necessary safety decisions so please keep an eye out for smaller kids and proceed with caution.
