How to avoid careless snacking.  Many people go through the day skipping meals and healthy snacks.  Then by the end of the day, you are starving and that’s when people tend to overindulge in the evening since they didn’t eat their meals and snacks during the day.  You should eat small healthy meals plus 2-3 healthy snacks during the course of the day.  It is important not to exceed your calorie goals for the day and to set a cutoff time of no eating two hours before bedtime.

Often people think they are hungry when they are only dehydrated.  You should drink some water and wait to see if you are really feeling hungry.  Low-calorie drinks offer a smart way to give you a full feeling.  With today’s busy lives, many people don’t pay attention when they grab something to eat in a hurry and it is not a wise health choice.  Tune in and pay attention, are you eating because you are happy, sad, bored, excited or stressed?  Ask yourself if you want to eat an apple when you think you are hungry.  If the answer is no, perhaps you are responding to some emotional feeling instead.

Some healthy snacks include berries, nuts, boiled eggs, raw vegetables, low-fat yogurt, air-popped popcorn and even a small low-calorie smoothie.
