Ice Melting Products

Ice melting products can damage your concrete, flooring and untreated deck surfaces.  Salting your outdoor surfaces can make walking on them safer but it can be harmful to outdoor & indoor surfaces, your pet and your children.  Rock salt and other salt-based ice – melters contain sodium chloride or potassium chloride.  These solutions can get in your pet’s paws and cause sores.  Children come into contact with these ice-melting products when playing in the snow, it can irritate their eyes and skin.  When shopping for ice melting products, environmentalists recommend purchasing a product that doesn’t contain salt as the main ingredient.  Calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) is an ice melt that will have less of an impact on your environment.  As soon as you can, rinse off and clean all surfaces affected by ice melting products.
