We are having a high volume of air conditioner calls with the hot temps. When spring arrives it is a good idea to call your local Plumbing/HVAC company and have your unit serviced before hot weather arrives.  Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance, while energy usage increases. Make sure you change the air filters on a regular basis, as a dirty filter can impede proper air flow. You should minimize dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Your dryer vent, falling leaves and lawn mower are all potential sources of dirt and debris. You should keep that area clean on a regular basis and trim all foliage away from the unit.  The aluminum fins on the evaporator and condenser coils are easily bent and can block air flow through the coil. You can purchase a tool called a “fin comb” to restore bent fins back to the nearly original condition. Make sure your condensate drain is not clogging up by passing a stiff wire through the units drain channel.  In the winter, you can cover the outdoor unit to protect it from winter weather and additional debris. We all know that regular maintenance cannot always prevent your unit from malfunctioning. When you need more than regular maintenance, you know who to call: De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
