Growing Grass

Growing grass is not as easy as you may think.  Growing grass provides ground cover and prevents the soil from erosion.  First you need to research what types of grass grows best in the region of the country you live in.  If you have bare patches of soil, loosen with a garden rake or till with a tiller if it is a large area.  If you have low patches of soil, fill them in with good top soil.  Make sure the ground is level.  Fertilize the soil.  Grass grows better in fertilized soil.  Buy a fertilizer that is specially made to help grass grow.  Scatter your seed.  If you have small areas to fill in you can do it by hand.  If you have a large area to fill in, use a lawn spreader.  Resist the temptation to over seed your lawn.  Over seeding will have thinner grass since the seeds will have to fight for the limited nutrients.  Put a thin layer of top soil over the entire seeded area as newly planted seeds need protected from the elements till they take root.  Water with a gentle mist of water and keep people and pets off the lawn.  Water daily until you have a few inches of grass.  Mow for the first time when the grass is 4 inches high.  Talk to the people in your garden center to get great growing tips and advice.  Good luck.  De Hart plumbing serving, Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.dehart-slide
