Changing Your Dirty HVAC Filter
We frequently discuss how to change the air filter in your HVAC system, but we seldom specify HOW. You are aware that the filter must be changed frequently. You are aware that it will contribute to keeping your home’s air healthier and cleaner. You are aware that changing your air filter on a regular basis will increase the lifespan of your HVAC system. And you are aware that a clogged air filter might result in system failure and expensive repairs. Let me now explain how to alter your filter.
- Find your filter. Is it inside the furnace cabinet? At the return air opening? Or in your duct work?
- Remove the old filter
- Ensure you have the correct filter size for the new filter. Length x Width x Depth. If there is not an existing filter with a printed size, grab a measuring tape and measure the space for the filter, rounding up to the nearest inch.
- Place the new filter where you removed the old one pointing the printed arrow towards your furnace and in the direction your return air is coming into your unit.
