Arthritis is a common joint disease.  There are more than 100 different types of arthritis and related conditions.  People of all ages, sexes, and races can and do have arthritis and it is a leading cause of disability in America. If you are an arthritis sufferer, here are some tips to make everyday life easier.

* Before going on vacation, scope out the terrain on an online topographical map checking for hilly or uneven terrain.  *Sleep well with lots of pillows.  Placing pillows between your knees when sleeping can help relieve pressure on your spine.  *Replace door knobs with door handles.  This lets your elbow and forearm do the work rather than your wrist and fingers.  * Invest in cooking pots with two handles as this distributes the weight evenly between your hands and wrists.  *Limit stress in the shower by installing handrails to hold on to.  Limit stress on finger joints by purchasing shampoo and body wash in pump bottles.  *Prevent falls by investing in a good pair of rubber-soled shoes that provide a firm grip and good traction, also walk on grass and not gravel to avoid slipping.  *If you want to garden, try growing vegetables or flowers in small portable pots or buckets with handles so you can lift them onto a table to weed or prune.  This way you can also place them in and out of the sun as needed.  *If you like walking on the beach, walking in the sand can be tough on joints.  Try using trekking poles – they are designed with pointy ends that will dig into the sand, these can help keep you stable and pain-free.  Buy the lightest set you can find to avoid arm and wrist pain.  De Hart Plumbing Heating and Cooling, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Topeka Kansas and some surrounding areas.  Arthritis
