Valentines Day is celebrated in many countries around the world on February 14th. In 18th century England, Valentines Day evolved into an occasion where lovers expressed their love by presenting flowers, candies and greeting cards. Valentines Day symbols used today involve hearts, doves and a winged cupid. Jewelry gifts of love are also popular in modern times. Make someone you love some heart shaped sugar cookies: Cream together 3/4- cup shortening, 1- cup sugar, 2- eggs and 1- teaspoon vanilla. Mix in 1-teaspoon salt, 1- teaspoon baking powder and 2-1/2 cups flour. Roll out on a floured surface, cut into shapes and bake at 350 degrees. Decorate as desired.
