Thawing Frozen Pipes

Thawing frozen pipes can take time and patience.  If you turn on the water and either a trickle or no water comes out and you are living in freezing temperatures- you have frozen pipes.  Likely places for frozen pipes are ones near exterior walls or where your water enters your home.  If your pipes freeze, keep the water turned on.  Keep cabinet doors open under your sinks and apply heat such as directing a space heater or a hair dryer toward the pipe.  Never try to thaw frozen pipes with a blow torch or any open flame device.  Apply heat until full water pressure is restored.  Turn the thermostatThawing Frozen Pipes in your home up a few degrees in freezing temperatures. Check all faucets in your home to assure you do or do not have any more frozen pipes. When water freezes, it expands, thus causing pipes to rupture.  Once you get your pipes thawed listen and check for running or dripping water in case of a burst pipe.  If you cannot get a pipe thawed or end up with ruptured pipes, it is best to call a licensed plumber.  De Hart Plumbing, Heating and Cooling serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas, Wamego Kansas and some surrounding areas.
