The toilet is a daily part of our lives and there are many things that should never be flushed down the toilet.  With a wide mouth and powerful drainage, it’s tempting to flush many things besides human waste down the toilet.  There are many things you should never flush, and if you do, you are risking significant plumbing problems.  Lets start with cotton balls and swabs, they’re made from cotton so you assume they will break down in the watery pipeline.  Wrong.  They get caught in bends of the pipe and cause massive blockages.  Paper towels are not designed to break down in water like toilet paper, never flush them.  Band-Aids are another item that will clog your system.  They are made of non-biodegradable plastic which is bad for the environment let alone your toilet.  Disposable diapers – yep, just because it says “disposable” doesn’t mean you can flush it down the toilet.  Another is cat litter.  It is made of clay and sand, what do you think will happen when it gets wet?  Cause a major clog.  Besides that, cat waste contains toxins and parasites that shouldn’t be in your water system.  ONLY human waste and toilet paper should go in your toilet.  Last but not least, never pour hot wax into your toilet.  Yes, I said that and yes it happened.  De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas and Wamego Kansas.
