Sunburned Skin

Sunburned SkinSunburned skin is not good for you.  A sunburn is a form of radiation burn that affects living tissue, such as human skin.  That results from overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, commonly from the sun.  An excess of UV radiation can be damaging and in rare cases be life-threatening.  A typical sunburn has initial redness followed by a varying degree of pain according to the duration and intensity of exposure.  Minor sunburns cause nothing more than slight redness and tenderness.  In more serious cases, blistering can occur.  Some sunburns have been so severe that it requires hospitalization.  Once a person gets a sunburn, your skin can be effected in as little as 30 minutes or 2-6 hours.  The burn can continue to develop for up to 24-72 hours later.  Long-term low-intensity exposure to sunlight will cause significant aging of the skin and cause it to thicken and appear leather-like.

Three types of cancer are associated with ultraviolet radiation and sunburn.  They are melanoma, basal-cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma.  The World Health Organization recommends to limit time in mid-day summer sun between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and to wear protective clothing, a wide brim hat and sunglasses if you must be exposed to the sun during that time period.  And never ever forget to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen.  Take care of your skin as it is the largest organ of your body.  De Hart Plumbing, serving Manhattan Kansas, Junction City Kansas Wamego Kansas and Topeka Kansas.
